If the boyfriend has his way, I'm going to dress up as Machine Girl next year:
In case you haven't seen the movie - it's about a Japanese schoolgirl trying to avenge her brother's death. She gets her arm chopped off by Yakuzas and it's replaced by - what else? - a big ass machine gun. Yes, it is a total gore-fest.
I'll wear the costume if the boyfriend can figure out a way to make a light machine gun attachment. I don't want to be carrying around a heavy prop all day. The schoolgirl outfit will be easy to get.
If you've seen the movie, this part will make sense to you - He thinks I should carry around a rice ball and shove them in peoples' faces for no reason. I think that's a nice touch.
The only problem - will more than a handful of people know who I am? I don't want a costume that's too obscure.
Rocket World just released a preview of their San Diego Comic-Con exclusives: the GID Astro Krieg Mini figures. Each mini-figure (Hannibal, Titus, Affonso) will be available in a limited edition of 100. The total run will be 300 pieces. The figures are made of GID vinyl and PVC and come with clear helmets. Each includes a death-ray pistol and human skull trophy. The Astro Krieg Mini will be window-boxed and cost $15.
The Astro Krieg Minis will also be available in three limited edition colorways. You can see all of them after the jump. I like them all, but I do have a favorite. Classic silver works for me.

Classic Galactic Silver Armored Hunter Space Suits with Ice Clear Bubble Helmets - $13.95 each
Covert Space Pirate Black Armored Hunter Space Suits with Laser Green Space Helmets - $13.95 each
New World Eco-Green Armored Hunter Space Suits with Laser Orange Space Helmets - $13.95 each
If you're planning to visit Rocket World at San Diego Comic-Con, be sure to check out the I.W.G. Flying Saucer Attack Craft. Previously we saw the unpainted version, and now we see a preview of the pre-production attack craft. The Covert Space Pirate Black edition is shown, and each attack craft will cost $49.95. Only a "handful" of the IWG Flying Saucer Attack Craft will be available at Comic-Con. I hope this means that more will be available after the convention. See the complete details after the jump.

- Fits all new IWG Astro Krieg Mini Figures.
- Fits many of the previous IWG Mini Figure Editions.
- Opening Bubble Canopy.
- Human Skull Trophy Display.
- Ray Gun Holster.
- Multi-position retracting landing struts.
- Dual Eco-Dyne Death Ray Cannons.
- Superior Fuel Economy!
I first saw this on Yoskay Yamamoto's blog. Wired Magazine has a nice gallery of 10 Things You Should have Bought at Comic-Con. Their picks include some of my favorites like these Rocket World's IWG Zipper Pulls and Yamamoto's Koibito. (I give credit to the the commenter who corrected the mis-spelling of Koibito.)
Most of their top 10 are well-known artists but they added some lesser-known names in there. Overall I like the list, and it's great to see designer toys in a different arena.
It’s day two of San Diego Comic-Con, but it’s day one for me. Toys are just one component of Comic-Con, but it’s clear that it’s growing in popularity. Comic-Con is always packed, but navigating the toy area was an ordeal. That’s why Uglydolls are in the perfect position on the other side of the hall. They’re the first booth that I visited. By the time I arrived, the Sleepy Chilly Ice-bag was sold out. But they promised they’d have more in the morning.
I did get a chance to see the Ugly Action Figures. They were in a glass display so I couldn’t squish them. They’re all really adorable, and I look forward to collecting these. They had most of the favorites in various sizes including an enormous Poe the Dragon. The display looked great and I have to return early in the morning for my Sleepy Chilly Ice-bat. See more pictures from the Uglydolls booth after the jump.
Yesterday I also had a chance to visit the Dumbrella booth (#1335/1337). The location seems so far away from the Toy Courtyard, but it’s really worth a visit. Dumbrella has toys, stickers, pins, buttons, t-shirts, puzzles, and books. I was able to see The Giver: Dead Zebra edition up close, and it looks awesome. I was also able to chat with Andrew Bell for a quick moment. Chatting consisted mostly of me being giddy and gushing. He had nice things to say about ToyCyte, so that was a nice moment.
I also saw these cool Slugs. They are hand-painted resin toys by Chris Yates Studio and Nikki Rice. I thought they looked very cool and unique. Even though I hate anything slimy, these looked nice. Dumbrella has a nice assortment of cool stuff, and it’s definitely worth the trip. See more pictures after the jump. [Edit: I added a few new shots of The Giver. Hopefully these are better.]
This is Frank Kozik’s 5″ black Anarchy Labbit - just one of his Comic-Con exclusives. In a limited editon of 100, each costs $100. It comes with accessories like the pistol. At 9:40am, they only had 7 of these left. My boyfriend and I both bought one. This will be my major purchase of this year’s Comic-Con. As soon as I saw it, I had to have it. Kozik arrived at the booth as we were paying, and he signed both of our Labbits. It’s true that he’s one of the coolest people ever. As expected, all of his exclusives are selling quickly so hurry while you still can. More pictures from his booth after the jump.
As I was taking a picture of this newly customized Munny, someone asked me who the artist was. This black Munny was customized and signed by Patrick Ma of Rocket World. My boyfriend decided to bring a black Munny instead of a sketchbook. (Actually it was my idea but sharing is caring.) When he asked Patrick to sign it, Patrick went above and beyond. I think this was the highlight of our Comic-Con. No other exclusive will ever compare to the awesomeness of the Patrick Ma Munny.
However, Rocket World did bring a lot of great toys including their SDCC exclusive - the GID Astro Krieg Mini-figures. I haven’t figured out how to properly work the camera for a glass display case. These figures look a lot cooler in person than they do in photographs. They’re almost out of them and they will probably be gone by the end of the day. The other three colorways are also going fast, but don’t worry. The Attack Craft did not make it to Comic-Con, but they are being shipped from China. They are expecting another shipment soon, so check Rocket World’s website after the Con.
I have more pictures after the jump including the IWG figures customized by Dril One. Special thanks to Patrick and the cool people at Rocket World. I’m off to wade through the crowd again.
EDIT: NOTCOT took some awesome pictures of the Zipper Pulls and IWG Airborne figures. You can see their full Comic-Con gallery here.
